GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) is a joint venture company promoted by the GMR Group (63%) in partnership with Government of India (13%), Government of Telangana (13%) and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (11%). The Company was incorporated to design, finance, build, operate and maintain a world class Greenfield airport at Shamshabad, named as Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad. RGIA was commissioned in a record time of 31 months and inaugurated on March 14, 2008, with an initial capacity of 12 million passengers per annum (MPPA) and 150,000 tons of cargo handling capacity per annum. The Project has the flexibility to increase capacity to accommodate over 40 MPPA and shall be developed in a phased manner.
RGIA is located strategically at the geographical center of India within two hours flying time to all Indian major cities. It is also well positioned globally within a five hour radius from all major cities in the Middle East and South East Asia. Thus RGIA has the potential to not only become one of the main air travel hubs in India, but also an important center for destination-cum-transit location for travel between the Eastern and the Western part of the world. Currently, there are 21 passenger airlines and 5 Cargo Airlines including Lufthansa Cargo, Cathay Pacific, Qatar, Turkish Cargo and Blue Dart operating freighters from RGIA.
The cargo facility at RGIA is the gateway to the whole of South Central India’s supply chain. Hyderabad boasts of the largest modular integrated cargo facility at RGIA, which is spread over14,330 sq.mts. An exclusive apron also caters to the cargo facility and is capable of accommodating Code-F aircraft. A Pharma Zone was set up to handle the products at desired temperatures. Lufthansa Cargo has certified the GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL), to be one of its key cargo hubs in South Asia for the transport of temperature sensitive pharmaceuticals.
RGIA has been consistently rated amongst the best airports having been ranked amongst the Best 3 airports in the world in 5-15 MPPA Category 7 times from 2009 to 2015. Year after year, RGIA has raised the bar in terms of facilities and services for passengers, reflected by the significant progress made in the ASQ score since 2009, when the score was 4.44. The consistent accomplishment reflects RGIA’s unflinching endeavor to constantly strive to deliver service excellence and offer the best to the travellers from all across the globe.
